Introduction To Music Theory

It's amazing what some knowledge of music theory can do for you as a musician! Understanding of just some basic concepts can open up a whole new world of ideas for you to try. You will be able to expand your guitar playing to a level that you never even knew existed.

In the lessons that follow you will learn the basic elements of music theory that you must know. These lessons will give you the practical information that you need to improve your guitar playing.

In the lessons that follow you will learn:

• Note values and time.

• The chromatic scale and how to use it to name every note on the guitar.

• How to construct the major scale.

• What notes are in a chord and how to spell chords.

• How chords and scales are connected.(This tells you what scales to use when you play lead.)

If you want to expand your knowledge of music theory beyond the basics, Here is the book I use in my private lessons. It is really well done and easy to use. Lot's of written exercises with the answer key in the back of the book.
