How To Tune A Guitar

Learning to tune a guitar can be one of the most frustrating things for the beginning guitarist to learn. Itâ?™s also the most important thing for a guitarist to be able to do. If your guitar is not in tune, everything you play and practice will not sound properly. Hearing chords, scales, etc. in tune is crucial to your development as a guitarist.

The steps you take to tune the guitar are easy to do. It just takes time for the ear to develop to the point that you can match pitches. The more you practice, the more acute your hearing will become and you will be able to tune a guitar with ease.

In the lessons in this section you will learn how to tune a guitar. You will learn two ways to tune your guitar by ear and you will find a discussion of electronic tuners. I recommend that you buy an electronic tuner. They are affordable and an electronic tuner can help in an environment where there is a lot of noise or on stage. It can also help get you back on track when you get stuck. I would caution you not to rely on them exclusively however. Learning to tune by ear is a great way to cultivate your hearing and further your overall ability as a musician.
